Adhesive materials used in watch making
The A&F Minad UV Curing mineral glass adhesive is curing cement and is meant to be used with a UV lamp. It comes with a 2 ml syringe to ensure precise application. It is rapid setting and is ideal for use on mineral glasses. The Loctite threadlock is an adhesive that prevents loosening due to vibrations. It forms a seal that protects against leakage and corrosion. It comes in a 10 ml bottle with a screw top and a long nose spout that allows for easy application. The adhesive displays functional strength 6 hours after application and can withstand a temperature range of -55 to 150 C. The Rite-Lok nutlock adhesive is a stronger version. The Sternkreuz UV watch glass adhesive can be used with a UV curing lamp on watch mineral glasses and watch bezels. It comes in a handy syringe along with a spare needle. For glass bonding and repair, the Vitabond UV watch glass adhesive can be used. It comes in a 10 ml bottle and is good for use on Stained Glass, crystal glass and figures. With the Poly watch scratch removal paste, scratches can be easily removed and smoothened out. This solution can be applied to the scratch area and polished with some pressure for two to three minutes with a piece of cotton wool. On contact with the solution, the plastic glass is slightly dissolved and it fills in the scratched area thus smoothing the edges and removing the scratches. This solution is very useful for watches with crystals made from plastics especially for Swatch watches. There are self adhesive Dial Sticking strips that are used for attaching dials to movements. They are double sided and come in packets of 100 pieces. They measure 2 mm in width and 12 mm in length and can be used in all standard watches. The watch dial sticking spots are double sided adhesive pads that come in packets of 1000 pieces. They allow watch makers to use original dial with a new movement. They hold the dial firmly but can be easily removed too after use.
As protection to hands when using adhesive or cleaning solutions and when involved in polishing, buffing and valeting operations etc, it is better to protect fingers using finger cots or protectors. They are made from latex and come with textured tips for greater sensitivity. Disposable plastic gloves that come in a dispenser can also be worn for protection during watch repair and servicing. The Superglue de-bonder comes in a 20 ml bottle and can be used to remove superglue from all surfaces. It is typically used to separate joints and to remove sticky label residues.
